Valentine's Day is just around the corner and while a lot of people are choosing not to celebrate, others do like to make a day of it, or even a weekend! Going away for the weekend with your partner is exciting and often needed with the hustle of life getting in the way of quality time. 

Figuring out where to go when you have the world on your doorstep is exciting and overwhelming in equal parts. So, here is a list of four places in Ontario that are not too far from Guelph, which are perfect for a romantic weekend getaway.

Niagara-on-the-Lake

A beautiful town in Southern Ontario, and less than 2 hours by car from Guelph, Niagara-on-the-Lake is a perfect place for a romantic getaway! With a whole host of places to  stay, restaurants to try and wineries to discover, Niagara-on-the-Lake is the place to be. Stay in luxurious hotels such as the Hilton Garden Inn or the Prince of Wales hotel, or choose a cozier vibe by staying in one of the area’s Country Inns such as Old Ivy Walk or Brockamour Manor. For food, the signature Cannery restaurant is a delight, or take a trip to the Irish Harp Pub for more traditional dishes. 

Blue Mountain Resort

Another great location under two hours away by car from Guelph, Blue Mountain Resort! Filled with outdoor adventures such as the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster and the Pretty River Valley Provincial Park, it’s a great place to unwind and have fun together. Choose from a variety of hotels to stay, including the beautiful Village Suites by Blue Mountain Resorts, and The Westin Trillium House. While you’re there, check out the Thornbury Village Cider + Brewery. 

Heather Lodge

Heather Lodge is a perfect hideaway for couples in need of some relaxation. Take in the natural beauty of the land and explore local delights such as the Stanhope Heritage Museum or have a laugh at Carnarvon Family Golf. For food, find the Rhubarb Restaurant or The Pepper Mill Steak and Pasta House for warm, nourishing meals while on a date with your loved one. Hotels are not entirely close by, but 8.9 miles away (by car) there is the lovely Lakeview Motel, or 13.9 miles away is Sir Sam’s Inn & Spa. So if you fancy a remote location to get off the grid for a long weekend, Heather Lodge might be the place for you!



Bayfield, Bluewater

In Southwestern Ontario, you will find Bayfield, a vibrant place filled with natural charm and beauty. With its parks, beaches and rich history, there is so much to do in Bayfield and a great place for a romantic getaway!
