As the weather warms up and we naturally want to gravitate towards refreshing drinks to help us stay cool and hydrated. Many of us will spend time outdoors socializing with friends and family, often drinking alcohol and enjoying life!
However, for those who do not drink alcohol it can feel like your choices are limited to just soft drinks such as Coca Cola or Lemonade. It's surprisingly easy to create great tasting non-alcoholic drinks that everyone can enjoy!
Here are some of our top summer drink recipes you need to try this summer:
Frozen Apple Margarita
If you love the classic Margarita cocktail and you also love apples, then this is for you! An ice cold, refreshing mocktail, swapping out tequila for sparkling apple is a sure way to tingle your taste buds and feel hydrated. If Apple isn’t really your cup of tea, you can swap it out for other sparkling juice flavors!
Peach Fizz
Delicious peach served with juicy raspberries and fresh mint leaves is possibly one of the best, inviting combinations around. The sweetness of the peach matched with the zing of the mint and tang of the raspberries will leave you feeling wanting more and more!
Basil, Strawberry and Watermelon Cooler
This recipe caught our attention as soon as ‘coconut water’ was mentioned. A beautiful pairing of flavors between the watermelon and coconut water, with an extra sweetness added thanks to the strawberries. The basil gives everything a nice edge without detracting from the overall flavor.
Rhubarb Lemonade
You are probably wondering why on earth rhubarb is being mentioned here, especially alongside lemonade, but honestly don’t say no until you have tried it! An unlikely pairing, but the two flavors are well balanced but have a slight tartness. It is definitely one to try!
Ginger Cucumber Lemonade
The zing of the ginger combined with the cool, subtle tastes of the cucumber give way to a truly delicious, refreshing summer drink! To make it even more fun, you could add some gin to the lemonade and fruit mix for an extra kick!
Some top tips for making your drinks pack an extra punch!
Fruit: Using frozen fruit for the actual body of a drink is fine; they retain flavor and can be blended easily. However, for garnishes, make sure to only use fresh fruit.
Herbs: If you add fresh mint to a drink, make sure you have prepared it properly for the full effect. Rub the fresh mint leaves together before using them for garnishing – to really get the most flavor out of the mint garnish, gently rub the leaves between your hands to release the scent from the leaves.
Glasses: Before serving, make sure the drinks and glasses are chilled before adding the ice. If either the drinks or glasses are slightly warm, this can melt ice faster causing the drink to be watered down which will alter the taste.
We hope you like this list of recipes! Give them a try and refresh your next outdoor gathering - it won't take long to whip up these delicious beverages!
