With Spring arriving it is the perfect time to bring more flowers into your life! While we’re waiting for the beautiful Spring weather to come in full force, a cute and easy DIY craft project is a great activity to try.
Make them for all around your home, or even for a friend, and enjoy the beauty of flowers basking in the sunlight. We have put together a list of steps you could follow if you wanted to try this at home…
Finding the perfect spot for a windowsill flower garden is super important. Flowers need good light, but with some shade too. They need room to grow too, so make sure you choose a wider spot to put the flower garden so that it can’t fall. Also be sure to check for intense daylight as well; most plants struggle in intense, direct sunlight.
You will need a box for the flower garden; you can either buy one from a home and garden shop, or alternatively make your own! Whichever you decide, ensure that the box is free from holes or cracks, so that water can’t escape and flood the windowsill. Whether you are making your own box or buying one, be sure to measure both the windowsill and the box or pieces of wood/metal you are going to use, before going out to purchase any materials.
Once you have your box ready, it’s time to choose what flowers you want! Wildflowers are increasingly popular due to the bees they attract; bees keep the world turning. They pollinate plants causing them to grow, which in turn creates fruit and vegetables. Without bees, the world would be in a bad way. Bees are essential to human survival, as they bring life and growth to nature.
Now that you have chosen your flowers, it is time to plant them! Put a layer of soil/potting mix into the base of your plant pot. Spread this layer evenly, before putting the flowers back in. Once the flowers are in, cover the stems slightly with more soil and make the soil a little harder around the stem, but with leaving some space for watering.
As the flowers start to settle and grow, you could make your windowsill flower garden even more appealing by adding some decorative items! Such as metal bumble bees, little ornaments of fairies or woodland creatures. These additions are especially exciting if you have little ones in your life, as to them, the windowsill flower garden could in fact, be a fairy garden. The possibilities are endless and garden shops or even online, often have a great selection available.
You are all set, there’s nothing you can do now other than wait and watch the flowers grow! Once they start to bloom, share the experience with family and friends; this is your awesome creation that you have made, so show it off!
Whether you decide to make a windowsill flower box for yourself or for a friend, it will be a fun, unique experience that will give you more to do, and something to look forward to each year as the flowers bloom away. Not only is it a fun craft project, but it is doing social good too. By adding flowers to your home, it is helping an entire biodiversity thrive; the bees are so important, without them life would be very different. A pretty, inexpensive craft that will last years to come.
